Desert Flowers in Red Cliffs Desert Reserve near St. George Utah

The Red Cliffs Desert Reserve is located between St. George and Leeds, Utah.

The collision of three major geographic areas - The Great Basin, The Colorado plateau, and Mojave Desert in this southwest Utah bring a diversity of plant and wildlife along with endless scenery.

Hiking through the area from March through May will yield a diverse range of desert wild flowers providing a colorful pallet of reds, yellows, white, and purple. Common species include Silky Phacelia, Purple Sage, Globe Mallow, Desert Marigolds, Hood's Phlox and Sego Lily, the Utah State Flower. One of the most fragrant is the shrubby looking Cliff Rose with white flowers. Below is the cactus flower and Desert Marigolds with red rocks in the background.

Maintained campgrounds and primitive camping are available in the area. They are all nice! The Red Cliffs campground offers great hiking in the immediate area. Quail Creek State park is about 1 mile away and offer camping right by the lake. Great for boating and fishing. Load up the Grub Hub camp kitchen and get out there. Don't forget your camera!
